Tsunami warnings have been issued along western Japan’s coastline, and residents have been urged to evacuate.
According to the USGS, the earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers and struck at 4:10 p.m. local time northeast of Anamizu in Ishikawa prefecture.
There have been at least three strong aftershocks reported.
